ABOUT THE LOTUS POND COLLECTION

The lotus is strongly associated with Buddhism in Japan and other Asian countries.

It is a symbol of truth and perfection.

It is a symbol of purity. It grows from mud, yet the plant itself is not stained.

Its fragrance carries far and wide. The further it travels, the clearer and purer the scent.

Two lotuses in symbolism signify a harmonious union. Two mandarin ducks floating on a lotus pond are often depicted on wedding wishes.

Lotuses in gardens are not meant to be picked, but rather to be observed at dawn when they open their blossoms. The closing of the flowers in the evening is also observed, when a "clack" is supposedly heard. However, lotuses were also cultivated as a utility plant. For example, the roots of the plant were used in cooking. The harvesting of lotuses was also a frequent scene in fine art. The symbolic purity of the lotus is also associated with a purely exact peculiarity. The lotus cannot be soiled by liquid impurities. On the surface of the petals there are tiny crystals that help liquids drain from the flower.

Lotus ponds have long been part of Chinese gardens. The scenery was meticulously thought out. For example, study rooms in gardens were placed so that the wind would carry the scent of lotuses to them. Apart from ponds, lotuses are also very often cultivated in portable containers, not only in Asia, but also here in Central Europe (due to the climate).

I painted lotuses for the first time in 2016. I tried to capture their delicacy and a certain ethereal quality. That's why I chose a restrained color palette. I only used pink, gray, and black. Later, I added a green accent in the form of reeds to selected products. I painted lotuses mainly on white porcelain and ceramics, because their purity stands out most beautifully on them. And on blue paper, which in turn evokes the water surface.

I chose lotuses as the theme for the new summer collection of 2021, as these plants are associated with summer. I named the collection Lotus Pond to emphasize the significance of water.

WATER + GLASS + GRINDER = REFLECTION

The Lotus Pond collection from this August can be traditionally seen on porcelain, glass, and jewelry. And especially on cut clear glass and heavenly white porcelain, this delicate decor stands out beautifully.
